Hi, I'm Kathleen Sabet, Founder and Principal Counselor at Solas College Advisors. As the director of college counseling at Newton South High School in Massachusetts for the past 10 years, I guided hundreds of students in the pursuit of their academic and college goals.
The heart of my work is my students. I am inspired by each and every student’s journey and celebrate their achievements. As a school and college counselor at high schools in New England and California, I have a keen understanding of the impact college planning has in the day to day lives of high school students. This advantage means that I know how to organize the process with a focus on the student’s needs and well-being.
Additionally, with 20+ years of college admissions counseling, I have cultivated strong relationships with admissions stakeholders at a range of institutions including some of the most selective. Each year, I walk the college tours like all prospective students visiting colleges! I thoroughly enjoy visiting colleges domestically and globally. Gathering real-time information and communicating with admissions staff have been critical to how I effectively guide my students, especially with the unpredictable climate of college admissions.
I have a Master of Arts in
Counseling Psychology with licensure in School Counseling from Lesley University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Mary Washington. I earned a Certificate of Distinction in College Counseling from UCLA and was selected to the Summer Institute on College Admissions at Harvard University. I serve on Counselor Advisory Boards at Bryant University and the University of Delaware.
I bring experience, calm and positivity to this transformational experience.
Hi! I am Kelli Fitzgerald, and I am the Essay Coach working with Kathleen Sabet at Solas College Advisors. I have privately tutored the college essay for over twenty years with students finding success at schools across the US and Canada. I believe that the college essay is a place to showcase an aspect of the student’s story–to paint their picture. I approach each student individually, creating a plan to bring out their most vivid moments and to discover the heart of what they want to say.
The college essay is one piece of the puzzle that is the college application. Each student comes to the table at a different point in their process, and I tailor my sessions and assistance to what the student needs, from the initial stages of brainstorming to the final edits. I work as a partner with students and help them highlight their stories and their voices. Ultimately, I assist the student in writing a college essay that showcases an aspect of themself through a moment; our goal is to bring the student to life on the page.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Writing from St. Lawrence University; a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Emerson College; and, a Master of Education in Secondary Education from Boston College. I have a Massachusetts Professional Academic License in English 9-12, and I am an English teacher at Newton South High School in Massachusetts.
